Button Snowman
You may have seen cute snowmen ornaments made with buttons. Now you can make a similar ornament easily and inexpensively using salt dough. Even better, this a fun craft for the whole family to make!
You will need: Salt dough A rolling pin The cap of a milk jug The cap of a water bottle Scissors White, green, and black paint A small piece of red felt Hot glue A small piece of cord |

Step 1. Roll out the salt dough so it is 1/4 of an inch thick. To make the body of the snow man, use the milk jug lid to cut out two disks. Use the water bottle lid to cut out five disk. |

Step 2. Take your scissors and two of the disks made by the water bottle lid. Trim the two disks so they are slightly smaller than the other water bottle lid disk. |

Step 3. To make the hat, roll the salt dough so it is about 1/8 of an inch thick. Use the water bottle lid to make three disks. Trim two of these disks to make them smaller.

Step 4. Take the top two pieces of the hat. Gently poke two holes in them. Let all the pieces of the snowman dry. You can let them air dry for a day or two. If you want to dry them faster, heat your oven to 200 degrees. Bake the pieces for approximately two hours. |

Step 5. To finish the snowman, paint the pieces for the head and body white. Paint two pieces of the hat black, and the last piece green. When the paint is dry, carefully thread the cord through the top two hat pieces. Glue the pieces of the body together. Glue on the scarf. Then glue on the head. Finally, glue on the hat. Your little snowman is ready to hang on your tree. |
The most famous snowman of all time may be Frosty the Snowman. Frosty first appeared in a 1950's song, recorded by Gene Autry. The song was popular and Frosty subsequently appeared in books, movies, and a television special. In 2014, Frosty got some competition. Disney's hit film "Frozen" featured the lovable snowman, Olaf.
